The festival is initiated by Public Art Lab / Berlin in cooperation with iMAL / Brussels, m-cult / Helsinki, FACT / Liverpool, Ars Electronica Futurelab / Linz, Medialab-Prado / Madrid, Kitchen Budapest.

For his research project Documenting Durational Live Performance Art Using Social Media, Sven Goyvaerts examines several aspects of the work of media artist Joseph DeLappe. Sven Goyvaerts is second year student at Transmedia Postgraduate Program in Arts + Media + Design and participant in a.pt (advanced performance training), a 12-month post-master performance research programme based in Antwerp.

This first Special Students will features productions made at the Design & Media Academie (Genk), Ecole de Recherche Graphique (Brussels) and ESAPV (Mons). On the menu: a game with haptic feedback, an interactive social music creature, a participative photographic sculpture, computed clocks and a communicating jacket.

Philippe Bekaert is professor at Exertise Center for Digital Media (Hasselt University) and has a long experience of collaboration with artists, especially Eric Joris from CREW. Since 2003, they are working together on the production of interactive augmented reality performances, such as the famous "Crash" (2004) and "Double U" (HeadSwap 2008) where participants can experience out-of-body effects.

Brian Mackern (Uruguay) is preoccupied with interface-design, random processes, soundtoys, real-time-video-animations, net- and soundart. His work has been presented all over the globe and won many awards. Mackern investigates the potential of new ways of structuring and combining images and sound. He developed interactive interfaces that allow him to create audio-visual compositions in countless variations. Appropriated film footage and abstract interfaces are brought together in a playful reflection on the various levels of remix culture. Brian will play with musician Fernando Lagreca

The research project VIRAGE develops methods and sofware prototypes for cultural industries and for the arts, whether they are performing arts, visual arts or installations. The consortium is composed of art centers, universities and innovative companies from France and Belgium. After 2 residencies at iMAL, Tom Heene and his colleagues artists, developers and scientists show during 3 days the results of the project Dark Matter. The research project investigates the way data from the web and our physical world can be merged and presented in a total user experience. It is supported by the Art&D programme of Interdisciplinary Institute for Broadband Technology. Partners are the Center for User Experience Research - CUO (KUL), WICA (UGent), NODEBOX and LAHAAG.

This workshop is designed for artists, designers developers who want to explore the use of C++ in a creative audivisual interactive context. OpenFrameworks audience are folks using computers for creative, artistic expression, and who would like low level access to the data inside of media in order manipulate, analyze or explore. That audience was significantly underserved by the current crop of C++ libraries. Sofian Audry and Samuel St-Aubin close their one month residence at iMAL with an intervention in the urban space nearby iMAL office along Brussels canal (Quai des Charbonnages). They will deploy in the city environment their automous low-cost electronic objects developed during the Accrochages project. Come and meet us at Esplanade Comte de Flandres (just near the metro station with same name). Also, starting this Wednesday night, one of the colorful windmill along the canal will display strange messages or patterns thanks to its new LEDs skin.

Angelo Vermeulen will talk about his art projects that utilize ecology and game culture. Angelo is fascinated with exploring dynamic systems in the process of art making, and will focus on his conceptual and aesthetical approaches for including both science and science fiction in his work. iMAL Video Archives 2000-2006 on YouTube!

This online archive is the result of a first effort to preserve our media art video documentation from 2000 to 2006 and share it with the largest audience. Thanks to Robin Foguenne, our current internship, wet digged into dozens of DV tapes to compile about 40 clips for a total duration of more than 3 hours in the best quality according to the original medium. Media Facade Festival Europe at Transmediale 2010

Media Facade is a European project with FACT / Liverpool, m-cult / Helsinki, iMAL / Brussels, Ars Electronica Futurelab / Linz, Kitchen Budapest, Medialab-Prado / Madrid – initiated by Public Art Lab / Berlin and supported by EU Culture Programme. Marie-Laure (iMAL) will be at the first internal workshop and public presentation of the project which will happen in Berlin during Transmediale.
